Members of Association of Community Pharmacists of India (ACPI)
and Red Ribbon Club in Malik Deenar College of Pharmacy, Kasaragod
co-ordinate World AIDS Day Celebrations in Kasaragod. All staff
in Government Hospital, Kasaragod was supplied with red ribbon
and leaflets for spreading awareness to the patients attending
the hospital on Dec.1, 2009.

Hospital
pharmacies in 5 leading hospitals in Kasaragod town were also
supplied with red ribbon and leaflets for spreading awareness
to the patients attending the hospital on the same day. Red ribbons
and leaflets where given to 20 popular community pharmacies in
the Kasaragod town. And the community pharmacists worked on Dec.
1st spreading the message against HIV & AIDS to the people at
Kasaragod.

In
the words of Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS); Mainstreaming
of HIV & AIDS and ensuring safe blood are major activities to
control the spread of HIV & AIDS in the country. Of the over
1 billion youth (ages 15-24) worldwide, some 10 million youth
are living with HIV: .Every day, an estimated 6,000 youth are
infected with the virus. Out of 2.47 million estimated population
infected by HIV in India, 88.7% are in the age group of 15-49
years. In view of this, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
Govt. of India has proposed to establish a network with Universities
and educational institutions to generate awareness regarding
HIV & AIDS and to promote Voluntary Blood Donation to ensure
safe blood and implement preventive programs on HIV & AIDS.

Principal Dr. Molly Mathew dictated the pledge of KSACS about
AIDS to the students and staff of the Malik Deenar College of
Pharmacy. A rally on the rural part of Kasaragod near KINFRA Industrial
Park, Kasaragod was conducted in the busy evening of Seethangoli
commercial area.

Shop owners, lorry drivers and pedestrians were supplied with the informative leaflets to spread awareness on AIDS. Around 400 students and staff participated in the rally wearing white coat and red ribbons to spread the message of AIDS preventions and control.
